Fauquier Ends 4 Game Losing Streak

Fauquier's Varsity Baseball team learned Wednesday night that some times ending a losing streak is more mental than physical.  The Falcon's demonstrated their mental resolve in a wild 10-6 win in 8 innings at Briar Woods Thursday night.  Fauquier carried a lead most of the game but Briar Woods tied it at 4 on a three run home run in the bottom of the 6th.  In the top of the 7th the Falcon's scored one to go up 5-4.  In the bottom of the 7th Briar Woods had tied the game at 5 and with 1 out and runners on second and third it looked as though Fauquier may blow another lead.  With the infield and outfield in for a play at the plate a fly ball was hit to Junior Max Winn in right.  Winn made the catch and came up throwing to home, delivering a strike to Jordan Taylor for the final out of the inning, sending the game into extra innings.  In the top of the 8th Falcon's batted around, scoring 5 to salt away the exciting 10-6 victory.

Fauquier concludes their regular season with three consecutive District games, beginning with Brentsville on Tuesday night at home.  Tuesday is Fauquier's Senior night, so come out and honor our graduating players, Jordan Taylor, Robbie King, TJ Soaper and Aiden Hanlan.  Festivities will start around 5:45.

Falcon's lose to Liberty 3-1 in 1 hour and 30 minutes. Fauquier was held to 3 hits and Junior Brad Smoot took the loss.

Falcon's Fall to 1-3 in District

The Fauquier Falcon's wasted an excellent outing by Sophomore Charlie Simmons as they fell to Kettle Run tonight 6-3.  The Falcon's struggled to produce offense early, got behind and never made it all the way back in a tough loss to the Cougar's.  Fauquier looks to make a mid season District push on Friday at Liberty, 6:00 pm.

Fauquier Earns First District Win

On Tuesday it was the Falcon's turn to rally from an early deficit.  After taking an early 1-0 lead at Brentsville, the Falcon's fell behind 4-1 after 3, having stranded runners in scoring position each inning.  In the fourth Fauquier found timely hitting and started a 4 inning onslaught on Tiger pitching that lead to a 10-5 Evergreen District win for the Falcon's.  10 Falcon batters reached base safely over the course of the game and Sophomore Charlie Simmonds walked away with the win.  The Falcon's look to push their win streak to 4 and improve to 2-1 in District at home on Friday against Warren County.  First pitch at 6:30 at Athey Field.

Friday, April 13, 2012

Fauquier Downs James Wood 8-3

The Fauquier Falcon's improved to 5-4 overall tonight behind a strong early start, scoring 8 runs over the first 2 innings to defeat James Wood 8-3.  Sophomore Charlie Simmons got the win for the Falcon's who resume District play on Tuesday against Brentsville.

Have a great and safe Prom Boys!  You earned it.

Falcon's Bounce Back Against Culpeper

After a disappointing 9-4 District loss to Liberty, where the Falcon's failed to build on their 4-1 first inning, Fauquier came back hungry against Culpeper winning 9-2.  The Falcon's got 7 strong innings from starter Junior Max Winn for a complete game victory.  Offensively, Fauquier scored in every inning and were led by Freshman Ryan Simpson, who had 2 doubles in his first Varsity start.  The Falcon's travel to James Wood tomorrow night and will attempt to get back over .500.

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Falcon's Set to Kick off District Play

Falcon's Fall to Briar Woods 10-5

For those that live on the Baseball field the old song about mother's telling us that there would be days like this clearly applied to last night’s loss to Briar Woods.  Senior Jordan Taylor set the stage for the Falcon offense in his first AB ripping a double to right center on the 10th pitch of the AB.  Junior Kyle Higgins followed with a frozen rope right at the Briar Woods First Basemen, who doubled Taylor off Second.  The Falcon's hammered the ball all night, but the ball found ways to hop, skip and find base runners as the baseball Gods conspired to hold them to 5 runs on 10 hits.  With a 5-2 lead going into the top of the 6th, it looked as though the boys from Fauquier would prevail anyway.  In the top of the 6th, as the temperature plummeted and the wind increased Junior Max Winn struggled to find the strike zone and the Falcon outfielders fought to come up with wind battered baseballs allowing Briar Woods to score 5 runs to take a 7-5 lead that they would not relinquish.

Fauquier takes a misleading 3-3 record into Spring Break and District play where the surging offense and previously superb pitching and defense should make them a team to be reckoned with.

Fauquier Pushes Win Streak to 3

The Fauquier Falcons won back to back games against Easternview and Skyline, respectively to push their record to 3-2 and their winning streak to 3.  Fauquier beat Easternview 4-1 on Tuesday night behind another strong performance by Junior Brad Smoot.  Smoot got the win, going 4 innings while giving up 0 runs while scattering 6 hits.  Junior Sean Herrell pitched 2 strong innings of relief, while giving up only 1 run and Sophomore Charlie Simmons closed the 7th, while striking out 2.  Kyle Higgins, Hunter Ball, Robbie King and Max Winn each had RBIs as the Falcons managed to scratch out 4 runs on 8 hits.

Tonight the Falcons rallied behind a strong, 7 inning outing by Junior Garrett Croson to beat Skyline 3-2 in 8 innings.  Croson fought all night, keeping Skyline batters off balance through 7 excellent innings, earning the win.  Max Winn had the game winning RBI in the top of the 8th by flying out deep to right and Winn then closed the game in the bottom of the 8th retiring 3 batters in succession to get the save.  Fauquier looks to push their winning streak to 4 on Saturday at 3pm at home against Monticello.

Fauquier Get First Win Over Culpeper

The Fauquier Falcon Varsity Baseball  team got their frist win tonight 8-0 over Culpeper.  Sophomore starter Charlie Simmons lead the Falcon pitching staff going 4 innings, striking out 6 and giving up no runs.  The Falcon pitching staff held the Blue Devil's to one hit and no runs on the night as Juniors Max Winn and Garrett Crosson both had strong performances in relief.

The Falcon bats finally came alive scoring 8 runs on 12 hits as the boys from Fauquier hit the ball hard all night long.  Fauquier's offense was lead by Senior Jordan Taylor who went 4-5 with a double and four RBIs and all 9 starters reached base safely.  Fauquier looks to get back to .500 on Tuesday at home against Easternview at 6:00 pm.

Falcons Fall to 0-2 in Another Heartbreaker

The Fauquier Falcons fell to 0-2 last night, losing a heartbreaker to Skyline 4-1.  Junior starting pitcher Brad Smoot had a steller performance giving up only 2 hits and 0 runs in 4 innings of work.  The Falcons defense was solid once again giving up only 4 runs, all in the top of sixth as Senior Jordan Taylor took the loss.  Senior Robbie King and Junior Sean Herrell each threw an inning of scoreless work.

Senior Robbie King was the lone offensive bright spot, going 3-3 with 2 doubles and the Falcons lone RBI, his second of the season. Fauquier hopes to rebound offensively at Culpeper on Friday.  First pitch at 4:30.

Monday, March 12, 2012

Falcons Varsity Fall 2-1 in Opener

The Fauquier Falcon Varsity Baseball team fell 2-1 tonight to Easternview High School.  The Falcon's had strong pitching performances from Juniors Max Winn and Garrett Crosson and kept Easternview batters off balance and off the base paths all night.  The Falcon's offense struggled to produce the timely hit and score runs even though they had runners in scoring position in almost every inning.  Junior Kyle Higgins scored the only Falcon run on an RBI fly ball by Senior Robbie King in the 5th.

The Falcon's will host Skyline in their home opener on Wednesday night at Athey Field where they hope to add strong offensive production to tonight's strong defensive performance.  First pitch at 6:00 pm.
